Faraway Places by Karen Tillison

Karen Tillison, a landscape and travel photographer, presents an exhibit at Spectrum Gallery that highlights her work in Faraway Places. This exhibit will represent some of her work from around the world. Photographs from such faraway places as Antarctica, Australia, India, Morocco, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina, France, and Italy will be exhibited. This is just a small sampling of her photographs from various places around the world.

Karen has been photographing nature, people, and almost anything that caught her eye for most of her life. Even as a child growing up in the Midwest, she remembers always having a camera in her hand. When she moved to the mountains in California the opportunities to photograph were endless. She was shooting mostly nature and landscapes in and around the Sierra Nevada mountains until she started traveling overseas. Her first international trips were in 2001 to Africa, on a safari, and then to Egypt where she developed a whole new area of photography. She has visited all seven continents in her travels, going to some many times. Her landscape photography took a backseat at this time and she turned to photographing people and their cultures. She has met many interesting people that she has interacted with as she traveled around the world. She makes these people and their way of life come alive in her photographs. Just looking at the children on the streets of Morocco or the old man in the boat in Vietnam you can imagine being there.

In 2022, she was awarded the cover of Shadow and Light Magazine along with the featured artist’s portfolio for the Language of the Land Special Issue.
She has ongoing exhibitions in California at Spectrum Gallery, Fresno, Circle Gallery, Madera, Stevensen’s Gallery, Fresno, United Security Bank, Oakhurst, Sierra Art Trails, Oakhurst, and Yosemite Sierra Artists competitions and exhibits.
