I am a visual journalist, driven by the need to document the intricate tapestry of my life and the lives of those around me—from wildlife to intimate portraits of my community.
I am a Oaxaqueña raised in California, my identity has been shaped by the strength of my mother and the flavors of a heritage she preserved. Raised by the land and a desire to see the world.
After 21 years away I returned to Oaxaca, Mexico for 21 days—a stranger to my homeland. I documented my family as a distant and intimate subject, an insider from the outside. Two years later I returned this time as another daughter of this land. surrounded by women and sharing in their lives, death, celebrations, and resilience, I found echoes of my own life. My photographs magnify the often overlooked intimate unseen moments that define us. Through my lens, I aim to capture the beauty and strength of the women who have shaped me—preserving their stories, presence, and resilience.
These images are a personal exploration and a tribute to the women who came before me, the daughters who came after me, and those who continue to teach me how to exist through this world with both strength and tenderness. Nosotras.
