Joseph (Jody) B. Hawkins, Jr \u201cDusk Til Dawn\u201d<\/p>

Photography has been a hobby since college but took on new meaning with the arrival of the digital age. In 2001 my first digital camera was a pocket Kodak camera. I discovered the opportunities digital photography offered and I quickly progressed to an interchangeable lens system with a Canon EOS 10D in 2004, beginning a long and ongoing relationship with Canon. In 2006 I acquired my first copy of Photoshop CS2 and attended my first photo workshop in Yellowstone National Park. It was then that my passion for outdoor and landscape photography caught fire! Since that time, I have had to pleasure to plan, travel, and photograph in Italy, Iceland, and around the American Southwest with two friends Michael Goldring, and Newton Seiden (with whom I am sharing this Spectrum Art Gallery show). I have been a member of the Spectrum Art Gallery since 2013, and this will be my second show. In this exhibit, I have selected a collection of landscape images from Iceland, Italy, Utah, and California capturing sunsets, Astro landscapes, and sunrise images. Newton Seiden \u201cUp and Away\u201d<\/p>

I\u2019m very excited about the upcoming Spectrum Gallery exhibition of my photos and those of my very good friend Joseph Hawkins. This exhibition consists of portraiture, landscape, and wildlife, and includes local images as well as images from recent travel to Italy, Mexico, Cambodia, and Thailand. I\u2019m also looking forward to sharing images taken with the DJI Air drone, representing my new interest in aerial photography. The novel aerial perspective is creatively invigorating. Familiar locations acquire renewed visual interest and a new dimensionality. And \u2026 it\u2019s great fun to fly! During 20 years of serious photography, I have resisted the urge to choose a photographic \u201cniche\u201d and have opted to remain a \u201cgeneralist.\u201d My interests in both subject and locale continue to expand. This variety keeps me constantly learning and keeps photography fresh and satisfying. More importantly, \u201ccasting a wide net\u201d has connected me with a fantastic community of talented and supportively inspiring friends. After a decade of lugging full-frame Nikon gear, I transitioned to the Fuji Mirrorless X system. The Fuji is compact, great for travel, and has a great color rendition. However, the camera that gets the most use is my iPhone 15 ProMax. Cell phones have high ease of use, good image quality, and low light performance. The wide range of post-processing apps have enhanced my creative latitude and are especially useful for my abstract photos. It is really a great time to be a photographer!
